The City of Grand Rapids, on the banks of the Mississippi River,
is located approximately 80 miles northwest of Duluth and 175 miles
north of the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area. The City serves as the county seat of Itasca County and is situated at the junction of U.S. Highway 169 and 2 and State Highways 38, 6, 46 and 65. The population is 8,233. Grand Rapids is in the heart of Minnesota’s beautiful resort and recreation area. This Minnesota historical site gives visitors the history of Northern MN forests logging history. Its mission is to: Connect people with the Forest of Northern MN. It offers a museum, recreated 1900 logging camp, walking trails, CCC camp recreation, Wannigan boat with the logging drives and a Fire Tower. Wonderful family fun while you learn about the vibrant history of the forests.
The family fun museum showcases unique educational opportunities for children to learn about history, lakes, science, reading and so much more. Judy Garland, or better known as, Glumm was born in Grand Rapids and lived her first 4 years signing and dancing here.
